You delivered to me what will surely remain one of the most romantic gestures of my life. A man I met on my birthday — two days before his — while traveling solo across the country to the Pacific Northwest sent me an encoded message in an African language, inspired by conversations we'd had the day before. He included my favorite flowers and could not have more fully capitalized on the elements of thoughtful creativity and surprise.
